DUODENUM: VILLOUS ATROPHY AND INTRAEPITHELIAL LYMPHOCITOSIS (CELIAC DISEASE AND OTHER ENTEROPATHIES)



CELIAC DISEASE CASE , Both antibodies were positive: antitransglutaminase and antiendomisium. Thi picture shows  moderate  villous atrophy , villous/crypt= 1/1

Celiac disease case , is the same patient of  picture above.  Thi picture shows increase intraepithelial lymphocytes. , aprox 50%, also the epithelial damage is notorious.

  1. Frecuentemente , vemos en mi hospital, muchos pacientes con diarrea crónica y anemia. Histologicamente observamos atrofia villositaria y linfocitosis intraepitelial ( de 30 a 40% en promedio). Este cuadro histologico en el hemisferio norte se corresponde altamente con ENFERMEDAD CELIACA. Sin embargo en nuestro medio, solo en un 30% de casos , los anticuerpos resultan positivos (antiendomisio y antitransglutaminasa). Necesitamos investigar mas este fenomeno.
