COLON : RECTAL MUCOSA PROLAPSE SYNDROME AKA SOLITARY RECTAL ULCER)

These pictures are also available on a  report we did, called Rectal mucosal prolapse syndrome: study of cases. Hospital Daniel A Carrion, Lima, Peru, 2010-2013, which  was publilshed recently : http://www.scielo.org.pe/scielo.php?pid=S1022-51292014000200006&script=sci_arttext

In this picture , you can compare both diseases, ulcerative colitis is more dense in inflamamtory cells, and basal (square 2 ) "blue lamina propia", on the other side, rectal mucosa prolapse , is more fibrous (arrow 4) " pink lamina propia". Also , the architectural disarray of crypts is differente, ulcerative colitis shows  more often bifurcation ( square 1) , meanwhile rectal mucosa prolapse, show elongated crypts (hyperplasia).

HISTOLOGICAL FINDINGS FOR DIAGNOSIS:- Crypt hyperplasia-Fibromuscular hyperplasia (with strands of smooth muscle lying vertical to crypts)-Angiogenesis.-Diamond crypts
