COLON ; COLLAGENOUS COLITIS

This picture shows basement membrane greater than 10 micres, the trichrome stain heps to highlight it, appears light blue. The epìthelium aboove , shows damage.


In collagenous colitis, there is not crypt disarray.

In collagenous colitis the surface epithelium tends to detach

In this picture , we can compare a normal basement membrane (left) and collagenous colitis (right).

HISTOLOGICAL FINDINGS OF COLLAGENOUS COLITIS
1.-Thickening of basement membrane (subepithelial collagen)  greater than 10 micrometers.2.-Lack of distortion or disarray of crypts.3.- Variable infiltration of intraepithelial lymphocytes
